PRIMARY ASSEMBLY RESOURCE – Being kind to others…

Posted: March 14th, 2009

Hi Bloggers,

I have added a short and simple Primary School Assembly on being ‘kind and thoughtful to others’ by thinking about what you say – “Say kind words, hear kind echoes”.

STORY OVERVIEW: This story is based on the theme of ‘Echo Mountain’. ‘Harold’ the main character is selfish and cannot say anything nice; consequently he does not have any friends. His parents are worried about him as he is always being nasty to his baby sister and to his friends. His parents go and consult the best doctor in the land who says that they should take him to ‘Echo Mountain’. On Echo Mountian, everything he says comes back to him. He shouts to the other side of the valley “I hate you!” the echo returns and he gets angry as he thinks that there is ‘someone’ on the other side of the valley who is saying nasty things to him! This continues until his parents suggest he says something nice – when he does, he hears a kind response!

Harold quickly learns that if he is nice to people they will be nice to him and he starts to gain friends: “Say kind words, hear kind echoes”.

If your school uses the SEAL Programme (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning), why not use the following resources to help with the unit: Good To Be Me?

More information on the UK SEAL PROGRAMME is available [HERE]

Gary Go’s Song: ‘I am Wonderful’ is used as the audio to a series of photos depicting people from all walks of life. It helps children to understand how special and unique they are and is a powerful resource to use during the opening assembly…

Dear Bloggers,

Primary schools all around the world are doing their bit to raise money for Comic Relief 2009. Your school can have a go at the 2009 Children’s song – Doing Something Funny for Money, produced by the OutoftheArk music team, who I must say produce fantastic music for schools!

You can view the children’s video  below:

Why not learn the song at your school and sing it at a concert to raise money?

To learn more about Comic Relief, visit: http://www.rednoseday.com/ The money raised goes to save and support children worldwide as well as supporting people in need.

So go on – do your bit and make a donation! Thank you!
